Every 6 months I do a total clean out of the coop. Once in the spring and once in the fall. In between those times, I rake and scoop, and dust with DE (Diatomaceous Earth). My chickens love to help with the cleaning by coming in and scratching what I am trying to shovel up lol. Doing anything outside and the chickens are near, makes the job more fun and more interesting lol.
We also moved our 15 babies from the bathtub to their new home in the shop. 4 more weeks and they will be able to sleep with the big girls and boys.
Here they are in the bathtub.
Now in their new home. 🙂
They now have more room to run around as they grow.
In this group we have two Silver-laced Wyandotte’s, two Barred Rock’s, A Cuckoo Maran, a Speckled Sussex, a Light Brahma, a Dark Brahma, two assorted Bantum’s, two Amber Whites, a Rhod Island Red, and a Swedish Blue duck and a Cayunga duck.
This cage we have them in is mobile. So once the weather gets warmer we will be able to move them outside with the big girls and boys during the day. In the cage, they will be safe from attack and at the same time, they will all get to know each other before their final move to the coop.
I haven’t had ducks since I was a kid. I forgot how much fun they are to have. I can not wait to be able to move them outside and let them play in the water. They love to splash in their water dish as it is.
I have already fallen in love with chickens. Now, falling in love with ducks 🙂
